Disclosure and foreword
1. The creators of Premium Mystery Dice and Milk Carton Dice were kind to send me a copy of the Mystery Dice (6-pack) and 3 Milk Carton Dice sets for an overview. However I did pay for the international shipping. That being said, they do not have any influence over the contents of this overview. The overview includes my opinions based on my personal experience. Find the Review Policy here.

Quick Foreword
1. If you did not skip the disclosure part, you read that 1985 Games provided me with the sets for my overview, but I will try to give you as unbiased opinion as possible, so I will treat the sets as if I paid the full price.
2. Sure, there are quite a lot of similarities between both products (Mystery Dice and Milk Carton Dice), but also some distinctions, so I'll divide the article into two major parts - the first part focusing on Mystery Dice sets and the latter - on Cat Milk Carton sets.
Now that this is out of the way, let's jump in and find out how good these sets are, and is it something worth picking up!
I. Mystery Dice Packs
Watch the Unboxing to See What We Got
What are the Premium Mystery Dice Packs
The Mystery Dice pack is what you expect - a pack containing mystery dice! Surprising, right?
Well, it's not that simple. In each mystery pack you'll receive:
- A set of acrylic dice (d4, d6, d8, d10, d100, d12, and d20),
- One metallic enamel pin,
- One sticker.
Given the name "mystery," everything you receive is random. That being said, the dice set will be of the same suit, so don't worry about having completely random pieces of dice.
And if you'll choose to buy the six-pack, creators promise that you won't get any duplicates. I cannot speak for all six-packs, but in mine there indeed were no duplicates (all dice sets, pins, and stickers were unique).
Quality of the Pins and Stickers
Probably you won't be buying the mystery pack for the stickers or pins, but still they must be mentioned.
The stickers are what you might expect - good quality printed pre-cut stickers. But that's all they are - they are stickers. Sure, they are a nice touch, but not much else.
But the pins are a different story - they are actually of great quality! They are made of a sturdy metal with vibrant prints, and relief elements, so they feel nice to the touch.
Also, I could think of some gameplay elements using the pins, like giving them as inspiration tokens or as substitutes for some monsters in your DnD sessions! So, I was pleasantly surprised about the pins. Good job!
Quality of the Dice
After opening all of the six individual Mystery packs, I can say that all dice sets were made of quality acrylic. It's important to mention that all sets have good quality printing with distinct and clearly readable numbers.
Overall, no set felt cheap which is obviously good! But not all of them felt as premium as others.
Of course, looks are subjective, so you and I might have different opinion which sets look better and which worse, but expect that you might receive a set that you don't like, especially if you order a single pack.
All in all, quality-wise, all sets were great, but "style-wise," I would say 3 sets looked like premium sets, while 3 were "more ordinary."
The Surprise Effect & Inner Collector
One of the main reasons for buying the Mystery packs is the surprise effect. The excitement and thrill of what you will get when opening a new pack is something you either have or don't! If you have it - then each pack is a dopamine boost!
Especially, if you open a pack and you see a new, exciting, shiny set that lights you up! If you are the right person - you know what I am talking about! It's great!
That being said, opening each pack is truly exciting, but I would have been even more excited, if at least one pack contained wooden or metallic dice. Yes, all of the sets were different and exciting in their own way, but knowing that every pack will have acrylic dice, is somewhat limiting.
Overall Value: Mystery Dice
The full price for one Mystery pack is 19.99 USD, and price for the six pack is 89.99 USD.
At the time of writing, 1985 games are having a sale for the Mystery Dice - $13.99 and $59.99 for the single pack and six pack respectively.
This is quite the price difference between the full price and sale price which means the value changes accordingly.
For me, I would say that a single pack is not a good value either way, because getting one set gives a high probability of getting a simple, uninteresting set. And you can get other simple acrylic dice sets for less than $10, and you will know what you are getting!
On the other hand, the six packs don't include duplicates, so there is a very high chance that at least 2 sets will be something you'll enjoy! So, the six pack is a different beast, and provides a much better value, especially if you get it on sale.
II. The Cat Milk Carton Dice
Watch our Unboxing to See What's in the Boxes!
What are the Cat Milk Carton Dice Boxes
Similarly to the Mystery Dice packs, the Cat Milk Carton Dice packs contain a set of acrylic dice, one enamel pin, and one sticker. While the Mystery packs have every component at random, the Milk Carton packs have contents that are known.
Currently there are 6 different Carton Packs (Blackberry, Blueberry, Kiwi, Orange, Pineapple, and Strawberry). Each set comes in a cute, colorful milk carton pack illustrated with Japanese-style pictures. They look cute and stylish.
The acrylic dice in all of these packs have a creamy color palette resembling their thematic fruit/berry.
Quality of the Pins and Stickers
Just like the Mystery Dice, the quality of the pins and stickers are the same as in the Mystery Dice packs. The only distinction here is that you'll know what pin and sticker you'll get as each Milk Carton box has their distinct contents.
Design-wise, all sets I received had pins with cute design, so it's no point in even trying to say which pin is better or worse. This is purely subjective to each individual. However, every pin has its distinct (cat-themed) design, so if this is something that matter to you - be sure to check each listing before making a purchase.
Quality of the Dice
The creators were kind enough to send me the Blueberry, Blackberry and Pineapple sets. All of the sets are designed two-color scheme resembling its fruit/berry.
The dice quality of the Milk Carton sets are on par with the Mystery sets, but - in the Milk Carton sets you'll know what design you'll be getting, so make sure that you order the right one for you!
Although all sets are of good quality, there are a few notes:
- Blueberry Cat Milk Carton Set
Subjectively, from the sets that I received, I liked the blueberry color scheme the most. It's blend of light blue tones mixed with creamy white makes every dice looking like a tasty blueberry dessert! Also, the numbers have a good contrast on them.
- Blackberry Cat Milk Carton Set
Color-wise, the Blackberry dice have a pretty similar design to the Blueberry dice, but I would say the Blackberry dice has a worse design, because the printed numbers have very low contrast, and they might be difficult to read in dimly lit rooms or for people with sight disabilities.
- Pineapple Cat Milk Carton Set
This set has a creamy-yellow color scheme with with green printed numbers. Although personally I like the Blueberry scheme better, I would say that the Pineapple set has the best contrast for the numbers. So, if you have trouble separating colors, I would say that the Pineapple set would be best out of the three.
Value: Cat Milk Carton Sets
At the moment one Milk Carton set is priced at $19.99, which is quite a lot, actually.
They contain one set of 7 acrylic dice, one enamel pin, and one sticker. Given that, when buying these things separately, you can get them for much, much less!
I would say, the biggest reason to buy these sets are the enamel pins - as they are really cute and unique.
However, if you are looking at these sets only for the dice - I cannot wholeheartedly recommend these sets. Sure, if you really enjoy the color scheme and want particularly acrylic dice, you won't be disappointed, but the value is not there. At least not for $19.99.
III. Overall Conclusion
Thank you, 1985 Games, for sending me the Premium Mystery dice six pack and the three Cat Milk Carton Sets! It was exciting to unbox all the packs and writing this overview!
But to make this overview useful for you - the reader, I will try to wrap this up by imagining that I paid for them in full, and with that in mind give you my final thoughts.
-Who Might Enjoy the Mystery Dice?
Obviously, if you are the kind of person who wants to know what you'll get, the Mystery Dice is not for you. Also, if you are looking for dice made of anything but plastic, then it is also not for you.
But these packs might be great for collectors-at-heart and as a gift for your board-gaming, DnD friends. Yes, this might sound like a small portion of people, but you might be surprised how many people fit this description.
-Who Might Enjoy the Cat Milk Carton Dice?
While I see a relatively wide spectrum of people who might enjoy the fun factor of opening each Mystery Dice pack, I think that the Milk Carton sets are for a really specific group of people.
Basically, the Milk Carton Sets is for your anime or cat loving DnD players who don't mind paying a premium for dice only to receive a unique (and stylish tbh) cat pin! If you think that you are this person or know someone like that - then yes, the Cat Milk Carton dice could be right for you!
-Premium Mystery Dice vs. Milk Carton Dice
The Cat Milk Carton Sets contain the same number goodies as the Mystery Dice, but the Mystery Dice can be found on sale. Also the Mystery Dice can be purchase as a six pack, making the individual bags cheaper. The Milk Carton sets do not provide such sets (at least, not at the time of making this article).
The only upside for the Milk Carton sets are that you'll know what you'll get, but even it is a subjective upside, because many would prefer to have the surprise effect.
So, unless you are a very specific type of person, I would say that the Premium Mystery Dice is the better choice!
